My Google 10^100 Submission

October 20th, 2008

Now that I’ve had a bit of time since I’ve left Adobe, I decided to put in a submission for Google’s 10^100 Project. I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to do volunteer work, but I always thought it would be of better use to the world if I could use my real skills (code monkey!) This project would facilitate that, allowing me to use my preferred skills as volunteer work.

The idea is called Possibilities.org, which is similar to rentacoder.com, but instead of working for money, you offer your skills as volunteer work. Grantees would also visit the site and post their grants, and you can choose who you grant your money to. We have an unenviable task of getting green, but nobody wants to spend the money on it. With this site hopefully that task gets a little bit more achievable. I would love it if some block in some city decided to try fund to fund solar panels for all the roofs. Here’s the site I’ve made for the proposal:

    Daniel,

I was just now looking to follow up on Google’s 10^100 project; to see about where things are in the process and I found your ‘site. The reason I am writing (is not for post) is to give you an FYI, you wrote on this page “I would love it if some block in some city…”, I think you meant to say bloke instead of block.

Continuing “…decided to try fund to fund solar panels for all the roofs.”, you double funded.)

By the way, I am fairly confident of the submission I made and it would dovetail nicely with what you are proposing here; I hope we get to the point where it is a possibility.

    Sincerely,
    William Blake

I know the project is long over… but if you never read the fine print… you actually don’t get to see your own idea through to its implementation. Google executes, through their own power and direction, your idea.

I had an idea of my own, but I guess I was too selfish to give it away for fear that it would be incorrectly interpreted and executed to the wrong end.

This is from their site, “Once we’ve selected up to five ideas for funding, we will begin an RFP process to identify the organization(s) and proposals that are in the best position to help implement the selected ideas.”

Has it occurred to you that an Internet vote is bogus? How do you compete with an organized project from India or China? Google simply didn’t think this out. Also, note that here it is, the day before the vote, and there’s no publicity. Isn’t it kinda strange?

I submitted an Idea that actually could help billions of people and change they way we produce energy and possibly replace the internal combustion engine.
But then when I read and read more on this scam, I found it is just another way for Google to get RICHER by STEALING PEOPLE’S IDEAS.
As if you invention is selected all the hard work you put into designing it, Goolge will give you “Good Karhma” if you idea is selected.
I then withdrew my invention, what a crock of crap this contest is.

Sorry, folks but I was duped too. On the up side I am happy that Google has shown me its true colors. Google LIES. When I signed up for 10^100 I signed an agreement with them that said they were offering something in exchange for something. Well now that it suits them they have thrown out the agreement but KEPT my ideas. It was bad enough that the original agreement would have allowed them to profit off of people’s ideas without compensating them but now they will not even let us look at a SINGLE specific idea contributed by anybody else. Guess what? It’s all in some big database hidden away at Google where they can sell them to the highest bidder or use them for their own purposes. They can even pretend that they lost your submission if they wish.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they planned this from the start too. They got free publicity for the ‘charity’ project all over the place when they first launched it. The one thing that lets me know Google lies and it’s all a scam for sure is that they spent a year figuring out what they’re going to let us vote on and then they only give us 2 weeks to vote. Ha. Ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as how stupid 90% of the ‘new’ ideas they presented are.

Believe me, I will *never* trust Google ever again.

One last thing, I remember taking a few hours of MY time to carefully put together some ideas and submit them. Google was rushing people to hurry up. Now here they are back again telling us we need to rush and vote. They don’t respect us or our time. I’m not going to waste even 1 second voting on their BS.

I have submitted no less that 20 ideas and 2 of them have made it through in one form or another,So I missed the fine print but added a disclaimer..No credit no thanks and no acknowledgment!!!! Thank god I posted my ideas to myself in a postmarked envelope (should any of the ideas not used end up being developed by Google or one of its subsidiaries or related companies)..
Seeing as how google records things for ever and always with no expiry I would suggest any research be done offline in a library or with a computer not connected to the web, information reverse engineering and data mining would see anything truly unique either quashed or sold all without anyone being any the wiser..Sound Paranoid? Try historical surfing you would be amazed at what turns up and how old it is…And yes I think its time Google lost its market dominance after this stunt…and we all supported something that acts a little less like Microsoft..try googling that??
