undocumented Actionscript 3: Array.indexOf, Array.forEach, Array.filter, etc …
i was just screwing around with creating array prototypes, making myself an Array.swap, Array.indexOf — and lo and behold — it looks Adobe has added some of those functions into Array as of Beta 2:
Array.indexOf()
Array.lastIndexOf()
i snooped around a little bit more and found:
Array.forEach();
Array.every();
Array.map();
Array.filter();
Array.some();
These are undocumented in Flex Beta 2 as of right now — but it looks like they’re here to stay (yay).
Looks like map, filter, some, every, and forech all behave similarly … i’ll play around and try to see what each does …
Array.forEach just runs a function on every element of the Array like so:
var test:Array = [1,2,3,4,5];
test.forEach(function(value:*, index:int, array:Array):void {
array[index] = value + 1;
});
trace(test);
I couldn’t figure out what Array.every did, but I’m sure it’s similar to forEach — if anyone could tell me that’d be awesome. Here’s the simplest form of Array.swap in case you need it:
Array.prototype.swap = function(fromIndex:int, toIndex:int):void {
var temp:* = this[toIndex];
this[toIndex] = this[fromIndex];
this[fromIndex] = temp;
}

You can actually do the for each thing like this:
for each(var item in myArray)
item++;

These new Array APIs are the same as the new ones in Mozilla…

That’s normal as ActionScript follows the ECMAScript specifications, as Javascript does.
Mozilla didn’t “add” anything, they’re just doing their job of supporting Javascript 1.6.

It worths mention that later Adobe has published these methods in new Actionscript 3 livedocs.
So now we surely know these methods are officially supported and we can use them without any doubt or fear that they’ll disappear in future :)
